Job description

A bioinformatician position is available immediately at the Institute of Pathology of the University Hospital Lausanne. The position is currently for two years and will be mainly dedicated to support our research and development programs in the field of oncology, with focus on hematological malignancies. Our research group has made major contributions to the molecular and genetic characterization of T-cell lymphomas and is pursuing active research in the field aiming to characterize the genomic and molecular landscape of these cancers. We have international collaborations with groups in France as part of the LYSA and CALYM networks. Our molecular diagnostic laboratory has been recently launching next generation sequencing-based testing for solid malignancies and is aiming to develop a similar program for lymphoid malignancies. The project is conducted in collaboration with the Bioinformatics Core Facility (BCF) of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). The selected candidate will work under the guidance and supervision of senior bioinformaticians at both locations.

Job tasks

  • Support the development and implementation of pipelines for the analysis of NGS data generated from our research projects and work on their translation to clinical applications.
  • Participate in the analysis and integration of private and public datasets generated by different types of omics technologies including NGS and microarray data for gene expression, methylation and copy number variations.
  • Contribute to various scientific projects and to the publications of their results

Profile requirements

  • The applicant must have a PhD degree in biology, bioinformatics or in related scientific discipline. A postdoctoral experience would be highly appreciated.
  • Good knowledge and experience in bioinformatics. Specifically, a good working knowledge of UNIX and shell scripting as well as of open-source software for the analysis of NGS data is an important asset.
  • Competence in statistic and R software.
  • Experiences in molecular biology, diagnostic or pathology would be an advantage.
