Job description

We offer two paid internship positions for Bachelor/Master/Ph.D. students in bioinformatics, computational biology, and related fields to do a 6-month or a 12-month internship in the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Group at Roche Basel.

The students will apply computational biology approaches to challenges in disease understanding and drug discovery. In particular, one student will work on a network model of T-cells, with the possibility to integrate both internal and external data. The aim is a better mechanistic understanding of their roles in different contexts such as tumor and viral infection.

The other student will work on extending and enhancing Molecular Phenotyping, which is a platform developed by Roche to reveal pathway activity patterns induced by therapeutic agents, with novel tools integrating knowledge and data. A pilot study of the platform has been recently accepted to publish in Cell Chemical Biology.

We are looking for highly motivated students with eager to learn and explore. An interdisciplinary background, hand-on experience in open-source software development and omics data analysis, and strong interest in computational-biology aided drug discovery are desired.

Profile requirements

  • Proven programming skills in R, python, C/C++, or Java
  • Contributed to or led one open-source software project
  • Ideally with experience with omics data analysis and integration, documented in forms of manuscript, software, presentation, etc.
  • Motivated to learn applied computational biology and bioinformatics in the context of drug discovery
