Job description

The School of Mathematics and Statistics has secured a new ARC Discovery Grant to develop new statistical approaches to identify various types of interpretable feature representations that are informative in classifying complex diseases. We invite applications for a two-year Postdoctoral Research Associate (Level A) to work on this project.

Profile requirements

We are looking for a Postdoctoral Research Associate with:

  • Experience with low level processing or performing initial data analysis on recent platforms of omics data such as next generation sequencing or mass spectrometry.
  • Superior computer programming or software development skills in at least two computational languages with one of them preferably in R.
  • Demonstrate the ability to develop R shiny application before the commencement of the position.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research / scholarly activities under limited supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Good communication skills (both written and oral).

To succeed, you will need a PhD or have started your final year of PhD, in a relevant discipline preferably statistics. This role also requires research strength in at least two of the following areas: statistical bioinformatics, computational bioinformatics, applied statistics, computer science, data science and computational biology.
